The "Hot Guys Cool Cup" Cup

After seeing my customizable Starbucks cup, my best friend went out and bought her own.

Today We surfed the Internet looking up her favorite actors for "Inspiration". After finding some good photos she had me draw them with a sharpie and slip them in her cup.

Thus we had the Hot Guys Cool Cup, or HGCC.

I'm making mine tomorrow, but we'll see if i have the guts to post it :)

And.. that Hot gay guy from Glee. I can't remember his name at the moment..

Shrieking Mandrake? Oddish? Garden Nome?

I'm not sure if this guy came from early childhood memories of Pokemon, Harry Potter or some weird part of my imagination. Either way, I think it's cute.. odd, but cute.

Fried Green Tomatoes

Today was so beautiful!

After teaching a private art lesson I walked 2 and a half miles in the warm early summer air to a Starbucks. Once there I sat and read a New Yorker I had bought out on the cafe patio. I read articles as serious as the situations in Egypt and Tunisia, and all the way to the pop culture side bar on Opra's last show. I had a healthy dose of current events and bubble gum. While I was out there drinking my ice coffee, I couldn't help but feel grateful for everything around me. The overwhelming beauty of oncoming summer held me there, transfixed with the promise of adventures yet to come. In less than 30 days I'll get on a plane to Paris, the city where all of my art heroes, literary heroes and music heroes have painted, wrote and played. The City of Lights was calling me on the patio at Starbucks. All I have to do now is wait.

Today I sketched a house from the movie Fried Green Tomatoes.

It's one of my favorite movies, Netflix it if you can!

Caffinated Art

Ok, I'm about to be very honest with all you readers.

I'm a coffee junkie, I can, mostly won't tell you how often I frequent Starbucks

In a given week. But, I will tell you it's enough to have some Eco consumer regret

over how many disposable cups I dispose of!

Today I made a step towards reducing my product waste by buying a reusable

Coffee mug to bring in. Yes, it dose have fun customizable art related features.. but going

green can be fun too!!!

It's a basic cold drink cup, but once you unscrew it's components..

You can insert any decorated, or art covered paper you want for a fun custom look!!!

Here's my first customization I drew and inserted!

Lucky Fox

Today I was sitting

at my coffee shop drawing this fox when a guy came up and commissioned me to make it into a painting. Wow, just the other night I was thinking, this never seems to happen!

My Sister's Germs

Well, last night and all this morning my sister was wretchedly sick. It was awful, and I am thankful she is feeling my better. Weak, but better. It's funny where an artist can draw inspiration.. after seeing my sister so sick I went ahead and drew a picture of germs...

Although my sister's germs are probably horrible little ugly buggers, mine are quite cute.

Feel better dear sister!

Steampunk Sub

My art studio is having an art auction to benefit a local Charity.

This is the piece I'm entering. I decided on the Jules Vern's inspired sub after surfing Wikipedia's art and design links. First I looked up Jules Verne, then it led to an art style called steampunk. It's based of the idea of futuristic worlds that rely on Victorian age design or technology, thus the "steam". Being a lover of Star Wars and Dr. Who (which was referenced on the page)I thought I'd give this sy-fy spin a try.

Later I'll add more dimension with shadow and color layers.

Monsters in Line

Remember how last night my computer wasn't wanting to load photos?

Well this is the monster line up I had talked about. I'm not sure why it's monsters that came out of my pen, but monster they are.

After a late night barbecue with friends I managed to watercolor the rest!

I think my favorites are the tall green furry guy and the blue one with the huge grin.

The purple guy sort of creeps me out. haha.

30 Minutes

Well, I just spent 30 minutes trying to upload pictures of my sketch of the day.

It's a sharpie drawing of a bunch of monsters, probably a company photo.

I wish I could share it, but my computer is unrelenting.

Tomorrow I'll post pictures,

Dancers Concept

Today while I was home sick I mulled over this idea for a dancer painting.

I'm not sure about it still, maybe I'll try a different color scheme.

Painted Rose

This evening the weather was beautiful, and as my best friend and sister picked and discussed classes for the next school year I sat and painted the rose in the vase on the table. While I sat there I was so happy to be out of high school. I took this past year off to work and hone my skills as a painter before next fall when I'll start collage. for the past months I've learned a lot about myself as a person and a painter. I'm starting to reach that point where I'm selling work and displaying art in local places. This experiment out in the real world has been a good experience. Working hard, painting with passion, learning life skills, living cheaply but hapily.. I'll be a little sad when I start in the fall. I enjoy learning, but I dread the idea of an ignorant art teacher, and lost time when I could be painting.

blah. Enough pity party!!

It'll be great, I just have nerves!!

Anyways, here's my rose.

It's water color on paper, and I think it took half an hour.

Well, cross your fingers for me, oh, and...

it's now 46 days until I get on a plane for my two week trip to Paris!

Lizard Update

Tonight I spent a few hour defining the face and fading the rest.

I'm extremely frustrated at the moment with the position of the eyes and nose.

ugh, I'll get it right, but jeez, two hours of work!!!

I need a break.

I'll fix it tomorrow.

A Tangled Gift

Last week a student of mine invited me to her princess fairy 7th birthday party!

I was so honoured to be invited, but I couldn't go because of scheduling conflicts.

Today during my lunch break I painted/drew this picture of Rapunzel and the little girl painting together. Tangled is her favorite movie.

She loved it!!

48 Days Until Paris!!

48 days until Paris!

The count down begins for my trip in June for Paris! I'll be there for two weeks seeing art and museums.

Today I sat outside and painted a bunch of stuff on this canvas. I kept painting different pictures over and over again. The top one is of my Dog. It would have been better if he had held still! Stupid squirrels..

Island in the Sun, or Storm

A bit of Fan art..

In the first Harry Potter book there's this part in the beginning when that awful family drags Harry to an Island to avoid Hogwarts letters.

This is how I always imagined that island. Of course this representation is during a calm warm day, unlike the howling storm it was being batter by in the book.

Tomorrow I'll add more color.. and maybe I'll draw it in the storm mentioned in the book.

Sun & Hem

It was 75 degrees out today! Or.. at least that's what it felt like.

Last night I was up for hours sick, so today I took it easy on my back porch.

I was still weak from the night so I spent the day reading and finishing A Movable Feast. I was so sad when when it ended, a good book should never be finished in my opinion. Then it can live on, tempting you, and the plot or characters never really leave. Unfortunately that Hemingway guy has a nack with writing and I couldn't bring myself to stop. Now I'll have to go read his novels, not that I'm dreading them, but what I liked best about the "feast" was the fact that it was his life I was reading. He couldn't make Paris any grander sounding. Reading his account of it has only made me more eager to go this June. This week I'm buying my plane ticket.. yikes, I'd better pick up some French fast and stop getting sick!!
