The Collection, To Be Hung Tomorrow!

Tomorrow My pieces will be hung at Cheese Louise!!

This is the last one I painted, a long eared fox, on some striped wallpaper.

Here is the collection (Most of it anyways) that will be up for sale!

I'm so excited and hopeful, but we'll see what comes of it.

Six days of solid painting, whew!

Hippy Deer

Who knew one animal could be so versatile?

Tomorrow I'll even-out the eyes, but I'm going to leave it feeling sketchy.

Close Encounters, or Bambie?

ugh, today I found myself feeling the early signs of sickness.

Not now when I have an art deadline!

It's not awful yet, so I'm fighting it off with Air Borne. Sounds like a block buster movie, but trust me, the bubbling concoction isn't nearly as fun as a car chase. I took a bath, bought a John Green book called An Abundance of Katherines (which is very, very, very good) and only worked on one painting for an hour or so.

I'm not very happy with it, the sizing is a bit off.

More tweaking tomorrow.

It needs to be less Close Encounters and more Bambie like.

Metallic Prepping

whew!

After yesterday's crazy productiveness, I took a break to prep the next canvases.

Stringing, painting, visualizing the final product, writing it down before you forget, picking the canvas sizes. A lot more goes into prep work then people tend to realize.

On this one I used a silver metallic paint for the peel away lines.

I re-used this canvas from a previous concept. It was a bit to fan-driven to be art, so I decided to let it go.

Gold star to anyone who can figure out what that odd shape is underneath!

(Hint, I'm just going to buy the poster instead)

Oh Deer, Oh Deer!

In my last post I was nervous about painting enough pictures before next Friday to fill a wall at a local cheese shop (Cheese Louise) that had offered to hang my stuff for the month of April.

Today I punched out two paintings!!

God must be smiling down on me, because I did the first one in 3 hours!

The other took a measly 2 hours!

Normally it takes a week and a half from concept to final touches and the signature.

I can't believe the ease at which they both came together!

Both are on stretched canvas and are done in acrylic.

The first is 20"x16", the second is 10"x"

Both will be up for sale by next Friday at Cheese Louise in Richland.

The painting above should be turned clock wise once, but my computer wasn't up for turning it tonight.

P.S. Today was my Grandpa Howard's birthday. He passed years ago. He was a big hunter and both of these paintings are dedicated to his loving memory.

Hanging Art and Mini Antlers

As I sit here sipping milk (with ginger snaps) I find myself pondering the week ahead.

So much painting to do.

a week ago I casually asked a local shop, Cheese Louise (Go there!) if I could have my art up on their walls sometime. Yesterday They told me that I'm welcome to for the month of April.

Hurray!!

Wait.

Thats 6 days away.

I've been selling paintings, and focusing on mini portraits lately. I don't have a whole lot of bigger sized paintings finished at the moment that would make an impact on a huge, blank, wall.

.

So as I sit here with my ginger snaps and now empty glass, I'm pulling together all my might as an artist and planning paintings that are due to be hung by next Friday. Things are moving in an awesome direction, but it's also moving sort of fast. It was ok for Andy Warhol to have assistants, what about Sarah Bosserman?

Above: Nearly finished mini portrait, also doubling as practice for the prepped canvas below.

p.s. I apologize ahead of time for the pathetic posts that will fill this week's quota.
Painting takes first priority.. as.. of.. now.

Mini Deer Portrait

I always had a soft spot for Bambie when I was little, regardless of the boring storyline.
Smooth antlers, gawky spaced eyes, wobbly legs.. deer are such funny animals!
Now one of those odd yet beautiful creatures is the subject of my next big project.
First I'll experiment on a tiny portrait.

To Infinity and Beyond!

As well as painting for myself, I've also been working on a mural for a local school.
More information about this project is here in an older post.

Yes, well, I keep getting the question "How big is it??"
I can't quite say, I've never measured it.
Next time I'll take a tape measure.
Until Then,

p.s. for all you "Whovians" out there.. I'm thinking about hiding the TARDIS somewhere in this space mural. hmmmmm..

Next Paintig Perhaps?

A new concept for my next painting popped up today while I was sitting in Starbucks.
Luckily I had my travel kit of watercolors to capture it!

A girl snuggle-ing a dear with flowers caught in it's antlers.
Sort of Fantasy-ish I know, but sweet at the same time. I think that I might play the colors down and give it an Innocent dreamlike feel..

I am aware the deer is horrendously sketchy but I don't have a "magic" IPhone or Internet access on the phone I do have.. which means I didn't have reference photos at my finger tips.
If this does become "something", I'll dig some up. Ditto on the female figure.. I'm not entirely pleased with it regarding the lower hips and arms/hands..

Yes, well, more might come of this, or not. We'll see what develops!
Also, I'm still trying to wrap my artist head around the thick sides of the Urban Folk dude.
More to come on him for sure..
but until then,
Stay Artsy,

Oh, and special shout-out to my new subscribers, and old ones, Thank you for the lovely comments and support, you have no idea how much it means to me!

Such Thick Sides You Have..

Urban Folk is slowly creeping toward completion!
A few touches here and there, a bit of dark plum on the tie, and some facial shadows should finish him up!

After He and the background on done I must tackle the next puzzle.
The sides...

Urban Folk

My Urban Folk Guy is coming along fairly well.
I lowered his eyes and I'll add the pupils tonight. I add some highlights on the wallpaper background, and thinned his beard a bit. I don't want to add to much detail to this painting. Solid colors, firm patterns and bold contrast are what I'm after. A bit modern, with a American Folk Art feel.

It's just another style to try to learn and grow from.. hopefully another layer to add to that Holy Grail every artist delves deep to attain.
..Personal Style..
It's a long road yet though.

The Urban Gentleman

I have no idea where this concept came from.
Maybe it's all the fashion blogs, with the indie folk retro styles,
or maybe it's my new found love of bands like Iron and Wine or Mumford and Sons?
Whatever it is, or wherever it's from, I'm liking it!

Above: concept drawings, in sharpie and pencil

This is the state the Urban Gentleman is at this moment. More work needs to be done, but I'm enjoying the process, slow and sure.

Oh, and I'm using a very thick canvas, just to switch it up a bit!

Frills and Googly Eyes

My Lizard painting is done!!
I adore his googly eyes, large frills and awkwardness.
So ugly that he's cute!

I've achieved all I wanted of him and I'm satisfied with my work.
Today is a good day to be an artist.
I'm naming it Frills and Googly Eyes, unless a better one comes along.

Quote Monday & A Tiny Lizard

It's That time of the week again..!
Well, here is a particular favorite one of mine from Ernest Hemingway.

Tiny lizards are just as cute as big ones.. maybe even more so.

Over the summer I might paint and sell these tiny guys at the Richland Farmers Market.

Maybe..
I need to gather more information before I commit though. Lots to think about..

Square Ballons..

Oh sweet, sweet weekend, why must you leave so soon, taking your lazy afternoons with you?
I might have lazed a bit to much this Sunday.
I didn't pick up a paint brush all day, so a quick sketch had to suffice for my bit of art.
It's nothing serious, just a silly bunch of square balloons, and a happy kid holding them..

Not my best by far, but relaxing to draw.
Remember how I promised a clearer update photo for Lizard Guy?
Here it is, and enjoy your last few hours of Sunday.. laze it up!

So Close..

My Lizard painting is nearly done!
All the colors are in place, I'm satisfied with the background, and all that needs to be done now are the eyes and mouth. Just a few highlights and depth tricks.. then my signature in the corner!

Tomorrow I'll take better, clearer pictures, but as for now.. sleep is a greater priority!
